A Brief Lool at John Quincy Adams - 1051 Words

This inspirational quote came from the sixth president of the United States of America named, John Quincy Adams. John Quincy Adams was born on July 11, 1767 in the town of Braintree, Massachusetts, which is now called Quincy, Massachusetts. Quincy is known as the City of Presidents because John Quincy and his father, John Adams both grew up in Quincy. However the town is named after Colonel John Quincy, who is Abigail Adams Father. Abigail Adams is John Quincy Adams mother, she named her son after her father. President Adams did not go to school as a child. He was tutored by his cousin James Thax and his fathers law clerk, Nathan Rice. When his father went overseas to be an American envoy to France and later to the Netherlands he gained an education at Leiden University, and later graduated from Harvard University in 1787 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was a strong believer in obtaining as much knowledge as possible. He himself said, To furnish the means of acquiring knowledge is ... the greatest benefit that can be conferred upon mankind. It prolongs life itself and enlarges the sphere of existence. President Adams political career started when George Washington assigned him to be the United States Ambassador for the Netherlands in 1973.
